WHEN BOATS AND ELECTRONICS MIX
How to prevent water seeping in

A lot of important electronic devices are always close to water and fuel on a boat - and it's critically important to ensure that nothing seeps in. Keeping liquids out of electronics is relatively easy – but water and fuel vapours can actually leach in through both the seals and the materials from which the cases are made. It is physically impossible to avoid this but, with a little help from Versaperm, you can reduce it to a level that avoids problems.
Versaperm's latest permeability measurement equipment lets you check how much vapour seeps through the fabric of the case, seals or components, giving you the ability to choose the best materials for any specific system. As an example a product made using cellulose, EVOH or PVOH, can form an excellent barrier against liquids, but allows water vapour to flow in virtually unchecked.
Versaperm Limited is a technology leader in vapour permeability measurements, and its equipment provides fast, simple and accurate way to test this for water vapour, hydrocarbon vapour and most other gases including Hydrogen, Oxygen, Solvents and CO2.
The instrument was purpose designed for this task and can give results that are accurate in the parts per million range for most samples and vapours. It can cope with several material samples, seals or enclosures at a time, often give a reading in as little as 30 minutes – whereas conventional gravimetric measurements take several days and are significantly less accurate.
Versaperm also offers a water vapour permeability laboratory service for companies that only need to test samples on an irregular basis.
